Existing knowledge of the Scandinavian voluntary sector is limited. In order to understand the distinctions between the Nordic countries and the world, as well as internal Nordic variation, we need to increase our knowledge about Nordic volunteering. This was partly the starting point for debate between the Nordic volunteering researchers in the Journal of Social Research, no.4, 2008.

This project will follow up this issue. There will be a workshop with participants from the Nordic countries in autumn 2009, with the preparation of an anthology in 2010 which will be published during the first half of 2011..
